Why??????

I wish I had a hidden camera set up at the grocery store (yes, this was at the grocery store) to see what kind of people are actually thinking about spending $160 on a 3-foot tall Betty Boop statue swinging a golf club. It doesn't seem to serve any alternative purpose - secret beer cooler compartment in the back, convenient table top on her head, etc - other than just to be who she is. I have never understood the Betty Boop thing. Nor do I understand adult women who wear Tigger t-shirts - which I also saw at this grocery store this afternoon. She was also wearing hot pink crocs. I think kids should wear crocs, but maybe not grown ups. I say this as my husband is heading out the door to the pool wearing his - yes, you guessed it - crocs. Judge not, lest ye be judged.

Take your finger out of your nose...

Oh, if I had a nickel for every time I had to tell one of my kids to "get your finger out of your nose." Or...pick up your shoes clean your room don't put your feet on the table use your inside voice don't hit your sister don't yell at your brother etc etc etc

So...I ADORE these signs from John W Golden that say everything that needs to be said (and it bears mentioning here that my mother often signed the notes she wrote me as a child, "the managment.")

This one would be great in my kids' bathroom:

...and my all-time favorite (if I had a bar, this would go over it)...

...among many many other awesome signs that he's got listed on etsy. Oh, how I wish I could afford one or five right now!

Pretty...

I've decided that, every once in a while, I'll just post a house-decor picture that inspires me and makes me happy. Just because. Who can look at these colors and not cheer up? Can't remember where I got this photo. If it's yours, please let me know and I'll give you credit and a little linky-poo! :)

The lovliest place...

A couple of weeks ago the fam and I spent five days at Cimarroncita Ranch in Northeastern New Mexico. It's just a little slice of heaven - one of the prettiest places I've ever seen. This was our second time up there, we had a fantastic time, and the setting is just breathtaking. Take a look...

On the road from Santa Fe...

Where the Great Plains meet the Rockies...

Arriving at the Ranch...

The view of "Baldy" from the old dance hall...

Down the lane...

The Trading Post. This was a small jail back in the railroad days. For a history of the place click here

Laguna...the old hotel where the guest rooms are now located...

Tanner discovers a treasure...

After fly-fishing...

Peeking out...

One of many little special spots...

Paige checking out the old Ute Park School house. Now used as a storage building, this was the infirmary when the ranch was a summer camp for girls. My grandmother was the camp nurse for a couple of years!

The World's Ugliest Bathroom...

I have the world's ugliest bathroom. Seriously. The worst. It's old. It's falling apart. It's kinda dirty. Just gross. So bad, in fact, that I hesitate to post photos of it here lest you recoil in shock and horror.

We were originally trying to do it on the cheap (IKEA) but have decided to splurge on some elements (like possibly travertine flooring). We have a shower stall with semi-newish tile and surround, and a semi-decent toilet with a lid that doesn't slam. You go to put it down and it just kind of glides down slowly and eventually closes. Weird. But it's staying. Loo and shower are both a neutral, light cream color and will pretty much go with the colors below. Oh...and we'll be replacing the glass shower door. I haven't been able to find anything other than clear glass. Does anyone know where I can get a 54" frosted glass shower door?

My DH and I set aside some of our tax refund specifically to remodel the bathroom. But we need to have a plan. So...I put together a little "inspiration board" and I'd like to know what you think!

Here are the elements as numbered:
1. inspiration room/colors
2. flooring - this is travertine - possibly from "A World of Tile"
3. vanity and top from Lowe's - we would put in a white vanity top, not this marbled version
4. brown towels from Target
5. brushed nickel faucet from Lowe's
6. brushed nickel and frosted glass sconce from Lowe's (maybe two of these)
7. brushed nickel drawer pull from Target (to replace the ones that come with the vanity)
8. "Fizzle" from Dunn Edwards
9. "Midnight Brown" from Dunn Edwards
10. "Trailing Vine"...from Sherwin Williams, I think
11. 30" Kolja mirror from IKEA
12. tall cabinet that matches the vanity

Yummy yummy yummy...

A few months ago I fell in love with etsy seller Gigi Minor and discovered that she hails from my hometown. I'd stalk her, but I just don't have the time or energy. BUT! I do want to share her amazing little confections. These are pin toppers...yes, tiny little goodies on the head of a pin. Amazing. Her etsy shop is closed for a while, but you can ask etsy to notify you when she reopens. Yay Gigi!

Rincon Valley Farmer's Market...

Yesterday was my first Saturday at the Rincon Valley Farmer's Market - and it was soooo much fun! The weather was gorgeous, the people were friendly, and I even made a few sales! I'm scheduled to go back on July 11th - come see me! Here's the entrance to the big barn. My table's right inside to the left.

Here's a shot of our display. Kate's tote bags are hanging on the wall. My stuff is on the table.

My friend Kate joined me and brought some of her awesome handmade totes...

And my mom came - shout out to my crazy-ass mom! Isn't the lighting in this picture great?

Made a few new friends today. Scott from Adventure Coffee Roasting is the world's nicest coffee guy. And his coffee is unbelievable. Seriously...go see Scott for fantastic organic coffee!

Rich from Yoga Saguaro / Local Southwest brought (among other things) gourmet olive oil and high-country lavender...heaven!

Produce in the farmer's market - there's nothing in the world like homegrown tomatoes!
